    The NATO Summit protesters charged with plotting terrorist acts in Chicago planned to target President Barack Obama’s campaign headquarters and Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s home — and firebomb police stations and squad cars to divert attention, according to sources and prosecutors. One defendant allegedly said that “the city doesn’t know what it’s in for” and “after NATO, the city will never be the same,” prosecutors alleged.

  • Kendall fairground wants new liquor license for expanded events

    YORKVILLE – The Kendall County Fair Association is looking to expand the number of events at the fairgrounds. That’s why the association applied for a new liquor license, and appeared before the Kendall County Liquor Commission this week for a public hearing about the application. “Previously, the fair has had four events a year, and we’re looking to expand to have wedding receptions and other events,” Mike Drendel, fair association president, told the liquor commission.   • Geese shot with crossbow arrows near Naperville park

    A second goose was found shot with a crossbow arrow near Century Farm Park in Naperville. On May 7, Naperville Animal Control received a call about a Canada goose having been shot with an arrow. The arrow penetrated the wing and body of the goose. The Chicago Bird Collision Monitors were called for assistance and located the injured goose on May 12. The goose was subsequently euthanized due to the injuries sustained from the arrow. This was the second incident of a goose being shot with an arrow in that section of Naperville.   • Months past deadline, Kaneland works to get impact fee agreements

    The Kaneland School Board has worked toward reaching an intergovernmental agreement with seven towns since well before a Dec. 31, 2011 deadline passed. On Monday, School Board members got as far as approving terms of a proposed 10-year intergovernmental agreement with Elburn as a show of support. “We want to send a clear message,” said Cheryl Krauspe, Kaneland School Board president. The proposed IGA was presented to the Elburn Village Board, but did not even come up for a vote.   • Sandwich will be e-waste collection site

    SANDWICH — In cooperation with DeKalb County, the city of Sandwich will be a monthly drop-off site of e-waste. Area residents will be allowed to bring items such as televisions, computers, printers, and other electronic devices to the e-waste site for proper disposal. At a recent meeting, the Sandwich City Council approved having e-waste drop off from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. the second Saturday of each month at the Sandwich Fairgrounds.
